On or about Friday, December 11th, 2020, around 5:30 in the afternoon, an accident between a car and an 18-wheeler claimed the life of a 23-year-old Boaz woman. Officials said the accident happened on Hustleville Road near Albertville, Alabama.
Investigators said 23-year-old Morgan Haley Powell was killed when her Nissan Altima was allegedly hit by a tractor-trailer that crossed over the center line of Hustleville Road. The 18-wheeler’s load allegedly shift, causing the truck to lose control. Emergency responders pronounced Powell dead at the scene of the accident.
Officials identified the driver of the tractor-trailer as 63-year-old Barry Jerome Smart, who suffered unspecified injuries.
According to Google Maps, Hustleville Road is two lanes that run east and west through a rural, residential area. Albertville is located about 75 miles north of Birmingham.
Authorities are still investigating the accident.
