On or about Wednesday, November 18th, 2020, around 10:37 at night, an accident between a tractor-trailer and a car sent one person to the hospital in a helicopter. State Troopers said the accident happened along Highway 49 near the intersection with 1100N in Chesterton, Indiana.
Authorities indicated one as-of-yet unidentified person was injured when their car was allegedly rear-ended by a tractor-trailer. First responders had to cut the victim out of the wreckage before they were airlifted to Northwest Hospital to be treated for their injuries. Police did not mention any other injuries in their preliminary statement.
State Highway 49 runs north and south with four lanes according to Google Maps. A grassy median separates north and southbound traffic. Chesterton is located about 45 miles southeast of downtown Chicago, Illinois.
Deputies from the Sheriff’s Department assisted State Troopers at the scene of the crash.
