Details:
On or about Monday, December 14th, 2020, around 4:16 in the morning, an accident between multiple 18-wheelers sent one person to the hospital. Police said the accident happened on the eastbound side of Interstate 40 at Chilhowee Drive in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Authorities said one person was hurt when several tractor-trailers, including one carrying 48,000 pounds of powdered sugar, collided in a chain-reaction accident. Police did not specify how the accident may have started. At least one individual was taken to a nearby hospital with unknown injuries after the crash.
Tennessee Department of Transportation officials closed all the eastbound lanes, and one westbound lane to tend to the scene of the accident. Traffic was rerouted to Interstate 640.
Law enforcement is still investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.
