On or about Friday, January 8th, 2021, around 8:30 in the morning, a single-vehicle tractor-trailer accident sent at least one person to the hospital. Deputies from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office said the accident happened along Interstate 79 in Fairmont, West Virginia.
West Virginia State Police said one as-of-yet unidentified person was taken to the hospital when the 18-wheeler they were in allegedly veered off the road and crashed into the median as they were traveling in the northbound lanes. Paramedics transported one person from the scene to a nearby hospital to be treated for unspecified injuries.
Looking at the scene on Google Maps shows Interstate 79 is four lanes in the area, with a grassy median dividing north and southbound traffic. Fairmont is situated about 140 miles north of Charleston.
Police are still working to figure out what caused the accident.
