On or about Wednesday, October 21st, 2020, around 5:00 in the afternoon, an accident between a cyclist and a tractor-trailer claimed the life of a 23-year-old man. The accident took place at the intersection of Bay Street and Roosevelt Avenue in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Authorities from the area say that an as-of-yet unidentified 23-year-old man on a bicycle was allegedly struck by a tractor-trailer at or near the intersection. Paramedics rushed the cyclist to nearby Baystate Medical Center where he died a short time after his arrival. No other injuries were reported.
An examination of the area on Google Maps shows that Bay Street is two lanes with a shared turn lane diving east and westbound traffic, while Roosevelt Avenue is four lanes that run north and south. The intersection is situated in the northeast part of Springfield.
Police are still investigating the fatal accident.
