On or about Sunday, August 29th, 2021, around 3:54 in the afternoon, an accident between a bus and a pedestrian claimed the life of a 72-year-old woman. Officials said the accident was reported along Highwood Avenue near Hillside Avenue in Tenafly, New Jersey.
Troopers from the New Jersey State Police said one as-of-yet unidentified 72-year-old woman was killed when she was allegedly struck by a New Jersey Transit Authority bus that was making a right turn. Emergency responders rushed the woman to Hackensack University Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries a short time after her arrival. Police did not mention any other injuries.
According to Google Maps, Highwood Avenue runs north and south through Tenafly, which is about 20 miles north of Newark.
Police are still investigating the incident.
