On or about Monday, June 28th, 2021, around 7:30 in the morning, a hit-and-run accident between a garbage truck and a pedestrian left one individual dead. Authorities said the accident was reported at the intersection of Cleveland Street and Union Avenue in Memphis, Tennessee.
Police from the area said one as-of-yet unidentified pedestrian was killed when they were allegedly hit by a garbage truck that subsequently fled the scene. Paramedics pronounced the pedestrian dead of his injuries a short time after the accident. Officials are still working to track down the offending truck, and representatives from the city have said the truck is not municipal trash service.
According to Google Maps, the intersection of Cleveland Street and Union Avenue is situated a short distance southeast of downtown Memphis.
Police are still examining the circumstances surrounding the accident.
