On or about Tuesday, January 4th, 2022, around 1:30 in the morning, a hit-and-run accident between a pickup truck and a pedestrian claimed the life of a 59-year-old man. Deputies from the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office said the accident was reported in the 800 block of Calle Mipla Verde in Brownsville, Texas.
Officers from the Brownsville Police Department said one as-of-yet unidentified 59-year-old man was killed when he was allegedly struck by a pickup truck while he was walking alongside or tried to cross the lanes of traffic on Calle Milpa Verde. After the initial accident, the pickup truck fled the scene. Paramedics pronounced the pedestrian dead of his injuries when they arrived the scene of the accident.
According to Google Maps, Calle Milpa Verde is on the east side of Brownsville, which sits on the border with Mexico, about 276 miles south of San Antonio.
Police are still trying to track down the pickup truck and driver that fled the scene.
