On or about Monday, November 23rd, 2020, around 5:15 in the morning, a single-vehicle dump truck accident left one man dead and sent another to the hospital. Officer said the accident happened on Highway 78 near the intersection with Highway 27 in Ridgeville, South Carolina.

Authorities said one as-of-yet unidentified individual was killed and another was injured when the dump truck they were in allegedly rolled off the side of the road while attempting to turn. Paramedics pronounced a passenger in the dump truck dead a short time after the crash, while the driver was taken to nearby Trident Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Examining the intersection on Google Maps shows Highway 78 runs east and west with four lanes, while Highway 27 is two lanes that run north and south. The intersection is controlled by a stoplight. Ridgeville is located about 38 miles northwest of Charleston.

Police are still investigating the crash.
