On or about Thursday, January 7th, 2021, around 5:45 in the morning, an accident between an 18-wheeler and an SUV left one person dead. Investigators said the accident happened at the intersection of San Mateo Avenue and Clarkson Avenue in Cantua Creek, California.
Authorities said one as-of-yet unidentified person died when an SUV allegedly failed to yield at an intersection and was hit by a tanker truck. The SUV was driving north on San Mateo Avenue and the tanker truck was traveling west on Clarkson Avenue when the accident occurred. First responders pronounced the driver of the SUV dead at the scene of the collision.
According to Google Maps, only San Mateo Avenue has a stop sign at the intersection. Cantua Creek is located roughly 42 miles southwest of Fresno in rural Fresno County.
California Highway Patrol is assisting with the accident investigation.
