Details:
On or about Monday, November 16th, 2020, around 6:40 in the evening, an accident between a pedestrian and a school bus left a man dead. Investigators said the accident happened at the intersection of Nirvana Avenue and Middle Neck Road in Great Neck, New York.
Officers said an as-of-yet unidentified 78-year-old man was killed when he was allegedly hit by a turning school bus. Police did not state where the victim was standing at the time he was hit. Paramedics rushed the pedestrian to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries a short time after his arrival.
Authorities said the bus is owned and operated by Towne Bus Company.
Pictures of the intersection on Google show Middle Neck Road is four lanes with a median dotted with trees dividing north and southbound traffic. Nirvana Road is two lanes that run east and west. The intersection is controlled by a stop light.
Multiple agencies are investigating the incident.
