On or about Wednesday, December 29th, 2021, around 6:30 in the morning, an accident between a tractor-trailer and a moped claimed the life of a 33-year-old Woodruff man. Authorities from the SCHP said the accident was reported along the southbound side of Highway 101 near Greenpond Road just outside Greer in Spartanburg County, South Carolina.

Troopers from the South Carolina Highway Patrol said one as-of-yet unidentified 33-year-old man was killed when a tractor-trailer allegedly struck him from behind as he was driving a moped southbound on Highway 101. Emergency responders pronounced the driver of the moped dead of his injuries a short time after they responded to the scene of the accident. Officers did not mention any other vehicles in their statement on the accident.

According to Google Maps, Highway 101 winds north and south through Spartanburg County, which is situated about 85 miles southwest of Charlotte.

Police are still working to pin down all the factors that may have contributed to the accident.
