On or about Saturday, November 6th, 2021, around 6:00 in the morning, a major accident between two cars and a tractor-trailer left one person dead. Deputies from the Clay County Sheriff’s Department said the accident was reported along Highway 17 in Green Cove Springs, Florida.
Officials from the Florida Highway Patrol said one as-of-yet unidentified woman was killed when her car was allegedly struck by a pickup truck and pushed into the path of a tractor-trailer in the oncoming lanes of traffic. Emergency responders pronounced the driver of the car dead of her injuries a short time after the collision. The driver of the pickup truck was transported to the hospital with unspecified injuries after the incident.
According to Google Maps, Highway 17 winds north and south through Green Cove Springs, which is about 35 miles south of downtown Jacksonville.
Police are still working to pin down exactly what happened in the accident.
