Details:
On or about Monday, September 13th, 2021, around 10:16 in the morning, an accident between a pedestrian and a tractor-trailer left one man dead. Troopers from the CHP said the accident was reported along the eastbound side of Highway 178 near the exchange with Union Avenue in Bakersfield, California.
Investigators said one as-of-yet unidentified individual was killed when he was allegedly struck by a tractor-trailer while he was walking along or trying to cross the westbound lanes of Highway 178. Paramedics pronounced the pedestrian dead of his injuries when they arrived at the scene. Police did not mention any other vehicles in their initial statement on the accident.
According to Google Maps, Highway 178 runs east and west through Bakersfield, with the scene of the accident a short distance northeast of downtown.
