On or about Tuesday, November 9th, 2021, a serious accident between a car and a tractor-trailer left a 47-year-old woman dead. Representatives from the Clay County Sheriff’s Department said the accident was reported along State Highway 19 just outside Vermillion, South Dakota.

Troopers from the South Dakota Highway Patrol said one as-of-yet unidentified 47-year-old woman was killed when the SUV she was in allegedly crossed over the center line of Highway 19 and struck a tractor-trailer in the oncoming lanes. Emergency responders rushed the woman in the car to a nearby hospital where she succumbed to her injuries a short time after her arrival. The driver of the tractor-trailer was treated for unspecified injuries following the crash.

According to Google Maps, the scene of the accident is a short distance north of Vermillion, which is about 62 miles south of Sioux Falls.

Police are still working to determine what led to the collision.
