On or about Monday, January 3rd, 2022, around 5:55 in the evening, an accident between a tractor-trailer and a pedestrian claimed the life of a 49-year-old woman. Authorities from the Florida Highway Patrol said the accident was reported along the side of Highway 301 in Hawthorne, Florida.
Deputies from the Alachua County Sheriff’s Department said one as-of-yet unidentified 49-year-old woman was killed when she was allegedly hit by a tractor-trailer that had veered off the side of the roadway while she was standing near a mailbox. Emergency responders rushed the woman to nearby University of Florida Health Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries a short time after her arrival.
According to Google Maps, Highway 301 runs north and south through the center of Hawthorne, which is about 72 miles southwest of downtown Jacksonville.
Deputies from the Alachua County Sheriff’s Department assisted FHP after the accident.
