Details:
On or about Thursday, December 9th, 2021, around 3:40 in the morning, an accident between a pedestrian and a tractor-trailer left one individual dead. Troopers from the SCHP said the accident was reported along the eastbound side of Interstate 20 in Columbia, South Carolina.
Representatives from the South Carolina Highway Patrol said one as-of-yet unidentified individual was killed when a a tractor-trailer allegedly struck a pedestrian that was walking alongside or made an attempt to cross the eastbound lanes of I-20. Paramedics pronounced the pedestrian dead after the accident, but it is not immediately clear if they died at the scene, or if he was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries a short time after the accident.
According to Google Maps, Interstate 20 cuts east and west through the center of Columbia.
Officials are still examining the circumstances surrounding the accident.
