On or about Thursday, September 9th, 2021, around 12:30 in the afternoon, an accident between a tractor-trailer and a car claimed the life of a Clemmons man. Troopers from the NCHP said the accident was reported along the westbound side of Interstate 40 in Burke County, North Carolina.

Authorities from the area said one as-of-yet unidentified man was killed when his car allegedly struck the trailer of an 18-wheeler that was on the westbound shoulder of I-40. Paramedics pronounced the driver of the car dead of their injuries a short time after they arrived at the scene of the accident. Police did not mention any other vehicles in their initial report on the collision.

According to Google Maps, Interstate 40 runs east and west through Burke County, which is about 79 miles northwest of downtown Charlotte.

Police are still investigating the incident.
