Details:
On or about Wednesday, June 30th, 2021, around 4:11 in the morning, an accident between a tractor-trailer and a pedestrian left one person dead. Authorities from the NJSP said the accident was reported on the northbound side of Route 1/9 in Elizabeth, New Jersey.
New Jersey State Police said one as-of-yet unidentified person was killed when they were allegedly hit by a northbound tractor-trailer as they were walking near or trying to cross the lanes of Route 1/9. Emergency responders pronounced the pedestrian dead after the accident, but it is not clear if they died at the scene or after being taken to a nearby hospital.
According to Google Maps, Route 1/9 runs north and south through the center of Elizabeth, which is about 6 miles south of Newark.
Police hope to release the findings of their investigation at a later date.
