On or about Tuesday, December 1st, 2020, around 6:00 in the morning, an accident between a pedestrian and an 18-wheeler left one person dead. State Police said the accident happened in the eastbound lanes of Route 17 in Wallkill, New York.
Police said one man died after he was allegedly stepped into the lane of traffic from the shoulder and was hit by a tractor-trailer. Paramedics pronounced the victim dead of his injuries at the scene of the accident. Authorities did not mention any other vehicles or injuries in their preliminary statement.
Looking at Route 17 on Google Streetview shows a four lane highway, with a grassy median flanked by barriers dividing east and westbound traffic. Wallkill is located about 78 miles north of New York City.
Officials are still investigating.
