On or about Tuesday, June 29th, 2021, around 5:00 in the afternoon, an accident between an SUV and a tractor-trailer left one person dead. Spokespeople from the ISP said the accident was reported at the intersection of County Line 000 East and State Route 116 just outside Ashkum in Iroquois County, Illinois.

Investigators said one as-of-yet unidentified person was killed when the Jeep they were in was allegedly struck by a tractor-trailer while attempting a turn at the intersection of SR 116 and County Line 000 East. Paramedics pronounced the 20-year-old driver of the SUV dead of her injuries at the scene of the accident. The driver of the tractor-trailer was unhurt in the collision.

According to Google Maps, the intersection of SR 116 and County Line 000 East is a short distance from Ashkum, which is about 87 miles south of downtown Chicago.

State and local police responded to the scene of the accident.
