On or about Thursday, July 1st, 2021, around 4:38 in the morning, an accident between a pedestrian and a tractor-trailer left one individual dead. Deputies from the County Sheriff’s Department said the accident happened along the southbound side of Interstate 59/20 in Birmingham, Alabama.
Troopers from the Alabama State Police said one as-of-yet unidentified individual was killed when they were allegedly hit by a passing tractor-trailer as they were walking along or trying to cross the lanes of Interstate 59/20. Paramedics pronounced the pedestrian dead of their injuries a short time after they responded to the scene of the accident. Police did not mention any other vehicles in their preliminary statement on the incident.
According to Google Maps, the scene of the accident is not far from the Fairfield exit, which is about 8 miles southwest of downtown Birmingham.
