Details:
On or about Wednesday, November 24th, 2021, around 4:00 in the afternoon, a major accident between a car and a tractor-trailer left one child dead and sent two other people to the hospital. Troopers from the ALEA said the accident was reported along Highway 31 just outside Atmore in Escambia County, Alabama.
Alabama Law Enforcement Agency officials said one as-of-yet unidentified 10-year-old child was killed, while a 9-year-old child and an adult were injured when the car they were in and a tractor-trailer collided while the car may have been attempting a passing maneuver. Emergency responders pronounced a 10-year-old dead at the scene, while a 9-year-old and the driver were taken to a nearby hospital with unknown injuries.
According to Google Maps, Highway 31 cuts east and west through the center of Atmore, which is about 51 miles northwest of Mobile.
Officials are still investigating the collision.
