One Killed, Two Injured in Tractor-Trailer Accident on Interstate 75 in Port Charlotte

On or about Wednesday, December 16th, 2020, around 6:08 in the evening, a multi-vehicle accident involving a tractor-trailer left one person dead and sent two others to the hospital. Troopers from the FHP said the accident happened on the southbound side of Interstate 75 near Kings Highway in Port Charlotte, Florida.

Authorities said a tractor-trailer allegedly collided with a car, pinning the car against a nearby concrete barrier. After the initial accident, a good Samaritan attempted to help at the scene but was hit by a passing pickup truck, which subsequently crashed into the scene of the previous crash. Paramedics pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene. The two people in the car were rushed to Fawcett Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries.

Florida Highway Patrol closed down all the southbound lanes of the interstate in order to tend to the scene and investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.

State and local law enforcement are still investigating.
