Details:
On or about Thursday, January 6th, 2022, around 5:30 in the morning, a major accident between a panel van, a tractor-trailer, and a disabled pickup truck left one person dead and sent two other individuals to the hospital. Troopers from the ISP said the accident was reported along the eastbound side of Interstate 94 near mile marker 36.8 in LaPorte County, Indiana.
Authorities from the Indiana State Police said one as-of-yet unidentified individual was killed and two others were injured when the panel van they were in allegedly struck a disabled pickup truck before it veered into the path of an oncoming tractor-trailer. Emergency responders pronounced a passenger in the panel van dead of their injuries following the accident, while the driver and another passenger were taken to Franciscan Health Hospital with injures of an unspecified nature or severity. The driver of the tractor-trailer and the driver of the disabled pickup truck were uninjured in the accident.
According to Google Maps, Interstate 94 winds east and west through the northern edge of LaPorte County, which is about 64 miles southeast of downtown Chicago, Illinois.
Officials are still working to pin down all the factors that may have contributed to the accident.
