On or about Friday, October 8th, 2021, around 6:45 in the evening, an accident between a car and a flatbed tow truck left one person dead and sent another to the hospital. Deputies from the Oxford County Sheriff’s Department said the accident was reported along Main Street in Norway, Maine.

Law enforcement spokespeople said one as-of-yet unidentified person was killed and another was injured when the car they were in allegedly struck a flatbed tow truck that was sticking into the lane of traffic from a driveway where it was being worked on. Paramedics pronounced a passenger in the car dead of their injuries, while the 77-year-old driver of the car was taken to the hospital.

According to Google Maps, Norway is about 44 miles north of downtown Portland.

Officials are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
