On or about Sunday, December 12th, 2021, around 8:56 at night, a major single-vehicle accident claimed the life of a 50-year-old Edinburg man. Troopers from the Department of Public Safety said the accident was reported along Wisconsin Road near the intersection with Val Verde Road in Hidalgo County, Texas.
Investigators said 50-year-old Oscar Garcia Arango was killed when the passenger vehicle he was in allegedly drove off the side of Wisconsin Road and crashed into a canal a short distance off the pavement. Emergency responders pronounced Arango dead of his injuries a short time after they responded to the scene of the accident. Police did not mention any other vehicles in their preliminary statement on the accident.
According to Google Maps, Hidalgo County sits on the Mexican border, about 222 miles south south of San Antonio.
Officials are still examining the factors that may have contributed to the accident.
