On or about Monday, November 8th, 2021, an accident between a passenger vehicle and a parked tractor-trailer claimed the life of a 76-year-old man. Deputies from the Moore County Sheriff’s Department said the accident was reported along U.S. Highway 1 Business in Cameron, North Carolina.
Troopers from the North Carolina Highway Patrol said 76-year-old Paul Woodell was killed when the car he was driving allegedly struck a tractor-trailer that was parked and partially protruding into the lane of traffic from the shoulder. Emergency responders rushed Woodell to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries a short time after his arrival. Police did not mention any other injuries in their initial report on the accident.
According to Google Maps, Highway 1 Business runs north and south through Cameron, which is about 32 miles northwest of Fayetteville.
Police are still working to pin down the circumstances surrounding the collision.
