On or about Wednesday, October 6th, 2021, around 3:00 in the morning, an accident between a tractor-trailer and a pedestrian left a 59-year-old man dead. Troopers from the UHP said the accident was reported along Highway 87 in Duchesne County, Utah.

Officials from the Utah Highway Patrol said 59-year-old Peter Peterson was killed when he was allegedly struck by a tractor-trailer as he was directing traffic at a work zone on Highway 87. Paramedics pronounced Peterson dead of his injuries after the accident, but it is not immediately clear if he died at the scene or after being taken to a nearby hospital. Police did not mention any other vehicles in their initial statement on the accident.

According to Google Maps, Highway 87 runs north and south just north of Duchesne, which is about 112 miles southeast of downtown Salt Lake City.
