Details:
On or about Monday, April 11th, 2022, around 3:14 in the afternoon, an accident between a tractor-trailer and a fire truck left a firefighter dead and sent a state trooper to the hospital. Troopers from the OSHP said the accident was reported along Interstate 71 in West Salem, Ohio.
Troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol said 35-year-old firefighter Phillip M. Wigal was killed and 37-year-old State Trooper Steven B. Hill was injured when a tractor-trailer allegedly crashed into the accident scene they were tending to. Emergency responders pronounced Wigal dead a short time after the accident, while Hill was rushed to the hospital with unspecified injuries.
According to Google Maps, the scene of the accident is about 55 miles southwest of downtown Cleveland.
Officials are still investigating the accident.
