Unofficial state data indicate that 3,047 crashes involving commercial vehicles occurred in February 2021 in Texas. This is roughly the same number of crashes that occurred in January 2021 (3031 crashes). February 2021 crashes represent a 16% decline from the number of crashes that occurred in February 2020.
February 2021 commercial vehicle crashes claimed 35 lives and seriously injured 84 more people. Further, 224 people ended up in the hospital with less serious injuries, while 316 more people sustained injuries that didn’t require a trip the to the hospital. Authorities could not determine whether 37 other people were injured in these crashes.
The Texas Department of Transportation will not release its final data until late 2022. These numbers are preliminary and subject to revision.
