Unofficial statistics from the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) indicate that 3601 crashes involving commercial vehicles occurred on Texas highways in March 2021. The number of crashes increased 16% from the February 2021 total. Most alarmingly, the number of fatal commercial vehicles crashes rose 60% from the previous month.
In total, 58 people lost their lives in a fatal commercial vehicle accident in March, while another 106 suffered serious injuries. 273 people suffered injuries that required hospitalization, 431 minor injuries occurred, and a further 51 sustained injuries of unknown severity.
Revisions to these numbers is possible, since TXDOT will not release its official statistics until late 2022.
