On or about Thursday, August 26th, 2021, around 2:25 in the afternoon, an accident between a tractor-trailer and a car claimed the life of a 26-year-old man. Troopers from the SCHP said the accident was reported at the intersection of Highway 261 and Mount Vernon Road in Williamsburg County, South Carolina.

Officials from the South Carolina Highway Patrol said 26-year-old Reginald Champagne was killed when his car was allegedly hit by a tractor-trailer at the intersection of Highway 261 (Manning Highway) and Mount Vernon Road. Champagne was southbound on Mount Vernon, while the tractor-trailer was eastbound on Highway 261. Champagne was pronounced dead a short time after the accident.

According to Google Maps, the intersection of Highway 261 (Manning Highway) and Mount Vernon Road is about 10 miles west of Kingstree.

Police are still investigating.
