On or about Thursday, January 6th, 2022, around 3:00 in the morning, a single-vehicle tractor-trailer accident left one man from Mississippi dead, and sent another Mississippi resident to the hospital. Deputies from the Lee County Sheriff’s Department said the accident was reported at the intersection of 30th Street and 205th Avenue in St. Paul, Iowa.

Law enforcement representatives from the area said 61-year-old Richard Cathey Jr. was killed and 69-year-old Alexander Levell was injured when the tractor-trailer they were in allegedly veered off the side of the road at or near the intersection of 30th Street and 205th Avenue when it slammed into a business a short distance off the pavement. Paramedics pronounced Cathey dead of his injuries, while Levell was rushed to Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center Fort Madison Hospital with unspecified injuries.

According to Google Maps, St. Paul is situated about 155 miles southeast of downtown Des Moines.

Officials are still working to pin down the circumstances surrounding the accident.
