On or about Thursday, July 8th, 2021, an accident between a box truck and a pedestrian claimed the life of a 29-year-old garbage truck driver. Officials from the SCHP said the accident occurred along the northbound side of Interstate 77 in Fort Mill, South Carolina.

Deputies from the York County Sheriff’s Office said 29-year-old Robert Hoyt Jr was killed when he was allegedly hit by a box truck while he was picking up trash that had fallen onto the northbound shoulder of Interstate 77. Emergency responders pronounced Hoyt dead of his injuries a short time after the incident. No other injuries were mentioned by police in their preliminary statement.

According to Google Maps, Interstate 77 runs north and south through Fort Mill, which is about 18 miles south of downtown Charlotte.
