A semi-truck driver was killed and another person seriously injured in a crash which led to a hazardous spill on I-64 near Institute, WV. Deputies from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department report the crash happened around 8:40 p.m. on Monday, March 10, 2025.
The initial crash occurred when a semi collided with a car, trapping it against the center median. The car then caught fire, while the semi went across the road and struck a barricade before rolling over. A reportedly hazardous load being carried by the semi was then spilled, requiring several hours of cleanup. The semi-truck driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver of the car was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Authorities believe the semi driver may have had a medical incident prior to the crash, but the investigation is ongoing.
