On or about Thursday, February 4th, 2021, an accident between multiple cars and tractor-trailers sent several individuals to the hospital. Deputies from the County Sheriff’s Office said the accident happened along Interstate 80 near Newton in Jasper County, Iowa.
Authorities said several as-of-yet unidentified individuals were injured when multiple tractor-trailers and several cars in a chain-reaction event. Emergency responders transported several victims to area hospital with serious injuries stemming from the accident. Police did not elaborate on what may have started the accident.
Interstate 80 runs east and west along the southern edge of Newton, which is situated about 35 miles west of Des Moines.
Police are still examining what may have led to the accident.
