On or about Saturday, March 20th, 2021, around 1:25 in the afternoon, a sixteen vehicle accident with a box truck, a tractor-trailer, and a UPS truck sent several people to the hospital. Investigators said the accident was reported on the westbound side of Interstate 80 near Emigrant Gap in Placer County, California.
Troopers from the California Highway Patrol said sixteen vehicles, including an 18-wheeler, a UPS truck, and a box truck collided in a chain-reaction accident that may have started after a single-vehicle crash. Emergency responders airlifted one person from the scene, while several others were taken to the hospital by ambulance.
Authorities said speed and inclement weather appear to be factors in the accident.
