On or about Tuesday, December 7th, 2021, around 7:00 in the morning, an accident between a log truck and a passenger vehicle left a Kingston woman dead and sent another Kingston woman to the hospital. Troopers from the NCHP said the accident was reported at the intersection of Camelia Street and Central Avenue in Lenoir County, North Carolina.

Police officers from the area said 45-year-old Shannon Sutton and 65-year-old Bernice Jernigan was injured when a log truck allegedly ran a stop sign at the intersection of Central Avenue and Camelia Street and struck the vehicle they were in. Emergency responders pronounced Sutton dead of her injuries at the scene of the collision. Paramedics transported Bernice Jernigan to Vidant Medical Center with unspecified injuries.

Officials identified the driver of the log truck as 25-year-old Baron McNeil, who was charged with misdemeanor death by a motor vehicle and failure to stop at a stop sign in connection with the accident.

According to Google Maps, Lenoir County is about 83 miles southeast of downtown Raleigh.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene of the accident to assist.
