On or about Thursday, April 21st, 2022, sometime in the evening hours, an accident between a pedestrian and a passenger vehicle left a 60-year-old man dead. Authorities from the Department of Public Safety said the accident was reported along Highway 62 in Newton County, Texas.
Authorities from the Texas DPS said 60-year-old Sherwood Wagner was killed when he was allegedly hit by a vehicle as he was walking alongside or made an attempt to cross the lanes of Highway 62. Emergency responders pronounced Wagner dead of his injuries after the accident, but it is not immediately clear if he died at the scene or if he was rushed to a nearby hospital where he died of his injuries.
According to Google Maps, the scene of the accident is on the south side of Newton County, not far from Buna.
Police are still examining the factors behind the accident.
