On or about Sunday, January 3rd, 2021, around 5:31 in the morning, a multi-vehicle accident involving a tractor-trailer and a pickup towing a car hauler sent six people to the hospital. Authorities said the accident happened on the southbound side of Interstate 95 in Colleton, South Carolina.
Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office said six people were taken to the hospital after a pickup truck towing a car hauler and several other vehicles collided in a chain-reaction accident. After the initial accident, two other vehicles allegedly crashed into the scene of the accident while emergency responders were tending to victims. At least one person was airlifted after being cut free of the wreckage.
According to Google Maps, Interstate 95 is four lanes in the area, with a heavily wooded median dividing north and southbound traffic. Colleton County is located about 53 miles west of Charleston.
Authorities hope to release the findings of their investigation at a later date.
