On or about Tuesday, February 1st, 2022, around 2:14 in the afternoon, an accident between a tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle left a 68-year-old man and a 66-year-old woman dead. Authorities from the CHP said the accident was reported along Interstate 5 at the exchange with Highway 140 in Merced County, California.
Spokespeople from the California Highway Patrol said 68-year-old Song Xiuming and 66-year-old Xu Zhao were killed when the vehicle they were in was allegedly struck by a tractor-trailer at the intersection of Interstate 5 and Highway 140. Emergency responders pronounced Zhao and Xiuming dead of their injuries after the accident.
According to Google Maps, the scene of the accident is about 105 miles southeast of downtown San Francisco.
Police are still investigating the accident.
