On or about Monday, January 17th, 2022, around 12:21 in the afternoon, an accident between a box truck and a passenger vehicle left one individual dead. Investigators said the accident was reported along State Highway 158 just outside Millstadt in St. Clair County, Illinois.
Police said 56-year-old Steven Vaughn was killed when a box truck allegedly struck his vehicle head-on while attempting a turn across traffic. Emergency responders pronounced Vaughn dead of his injuries a short time after the accident. The driver of the box truck was unhurt in the collision.
According to Google Maps, the scene of the accident is a short distance from Millstadt, which is about 305 miles south of downtown Chicago.
Officials are still examining the cause of the accident.
