On or about Monday, October 26th, 2020, around 6:00 in the evening, an accident between an 18-wheeler and a car sent a 50-year-old woman to the hospital. Officers said that the accident happened in the westbound lanes of I-70 near milepost 98 in Effingham County, Illinois.
State Troopers indicated that 50-year-old Tammy Leonard was injured when her car was hit by a tractor-trailer when it allegedly changed lanes into her path. Paramedics transported Leonard to a nearby hospital to be treated for minor injuries. The driver of the tractor-trailer, identified as Saleem Gillani, did not report injuries after the crash, but was cited for improper lane use.
Google Maps shows that Interstate 70 is two lanes that cut east and west through the center of Effingham County, Effingham is situated about 105 miles east of St Louis.
Police hope to release more information about the accident at a later date.
