
Texas Adds 27,900 Jobs in January 2025
According the the Texas Workforce Commission, the Texas economy added 27,900 jobs in January 2025. 19,300 jobs were added in the private sector, while the number of government employees rose by 8,600. With the additional jobs, the unemployment rate in Texas stands at 4.1%. This ranks 32nd nationally, among the fifty states and Washington, D.C.
The 27,900 new jobs in January brought the 12-month running total of new jobs in Texas to 187,700.
The areas with the lowest unemployment rate are:
- Midland — 3.0%
- Amarillo — 3.1%
- San Angelo — 3.3%
The areas with the highest unemployment rate are:
- Eagle Pass — 8.7%
- McAllen-Edinburg-Mission — 6.2%
- Beaumont-Port Arthur — 5.4%
The Texas Workforce Commission will release its February jobs report the last week of March.
