On or about Tuesday, November 17th, 2020, around 6:05 in the morning, an accident between an SUV and a tractor-trailer sent a 45-year-old man to the hospital. State Troopers said the accident happened on Highway 61 at 250th Avenue in Welton, Iowa.

Authorities said 45-year-old Thaddeus James Foust was injured when his SUV allegedly swerved to avoid an 18-wheeler that turned into his path, causing the SUV to roll in the median of the highway. Paramedics rushed Foust to a nearby hospital to be treated for his injuries. Police did not report any other injuries in their preliminary statement.

Google Streetview shows Highway 61 is four lanes, with a wide, grassy median dividing east and westbound traffic. The pavement is flanked by rural grassland on either side. Welton is located about 67 miles east of Cedar Rapids.

State and local law enforcement are examining the circumstances surrounding the accident.
