On or about Monday, December 14th, 2020, around 2:45 in the afternoon, a single-vehicle tractor-trailer accident sent three people to the hospital. State Troopers said the accident happened on the westbound side of Interstate 70 near the 14 mile marker in Vigo County, Indiana.
Police said three people were injured when an 18-wheeler allegedly veered off the side of the interstate and rolled before it came to a stop in a wooded patch a short distance off the pavement. Three people were ejected from the truck as it rolled. Paramedics airlifted one victim from the scene, while the other two were taken by ambulance.
Investigators mentioned that a malfunction with the trailer portion of the 18-wheeler may have caused the truck to fishtail and subsequently roll. The trailer dislodged from the truck during the crash.
Authorities closed down the passing lane of westbound Interstate 70 for several hours to tend to the scene of the accident.
Police are still investigating.
