On or about Saturday, November 14th, 2020, around 3:00 in the morning, a chain-reaction accident with five tractor-trailers and five cars left three people dead and sent another two to the hospital. CHP Troopers said the accident happened along Highway 99 between Gridley and Biggs in Butte County, California.

Police said three as-of-yet unidentified people were killed and two were hurt when ten vehicles, including five tractor-trailers, collided in a chain-reaction accident that began under unspecified conditions. Authorities said the area was blanketed in dense fog at the time of the crash.

Three people were pronounced dead a short time after the accident, while two other people were taken to nearby hospitals to be treated for minor injuries.

Google Streetview shows Highway 99 as two lanes that run north and south through the center of Butte County. The area is situated about 57 miles north of Sacramento.

Authorities closed the highway for several hours to investigate the crash.
