On or about Saturday, January 8th, 2022, around 12:00 in the afternoon, a major accident between a tractor-trailer and two SUVs left a 26-year-old Elgin man dead and a 26-year-old Buda woman dead. Troopers from the Department of Public Safety said the accident was reported in the 700 block of West Loop 121 in Belton, Texas.
Officials from the Texas DPS said 26-year-old Trey Swanson and 26-year-old Elizabeth Zeilinger were killed when a tractor-trailer, a Buick SUV and a GMC SUV collided in a chain-reaction accident on West Loop 121. Authorities did not elaborate as to what may have started the accident. Emergency responders pronounced Swenson and Zeilinger dead of their injuries a short time after they responded to the collision. Officials did not specify which vehicles Swenson and Zeilinger were in at the time of the colliion.
According to Google Maps, the scene of the accident in Belton is about 59 miles north of downtown Austin.
Police are still investigating the accident.
