On or about Wednesday, June 16th, 2021, around 8:35 in the morning, an accident between a box truck and a dump truck left a 19-year-old man dead. Deputies from the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office said the accident happened along Highway 170 near Old Bailey Road in Okatie, South Carolina.

Police said 19-year-old Troy Hamrick was killed when the box truck he was in allegedly changed lanes and struck a dump truck. Emergency responders pronounced Hamrick dead of his injuries at the scene of the accident. The driver of the box truck was taken to a nearby hospital with unspecified injuries stemming from the accident. Officials did not mention any other vehicles in their initial statement on the accident.

According to Google Maps, Highway 170 runs east and west along the northern edge of Okatie, which is about 21 miles north of Savannah, Georgia.

Authorities are still examining the cause of the crash.
